Serbia joins Regional Booking Platform, strengthening cross-border gas market integration
The move enables transparent capacity booking at cross-border interconnection points, supporting CAM Network Code implementation and Serbia’s continued alignment with EU rules
Serbia has taken a significant step toward a more open, integrated and competitive natural gas market, contributing to the broader objective of building a regional gas market fully aligned with European standards. Its national transmission system operator has joined the Regional Booking Platform, enabling gas transmission capacity at cross-border points to be allocated through transparent and harmonised European procedures.
The move supports third-party access and will allow market participants to book capacity for gas flows between Serbia and neighbouring countries under Capacity Allocation Mechanism rules. Serbia is expected to begin using the Regional Booking Platform in July, with capacity allocation procedures conducted largely in line with ENTSOG’s annual auction calendar and standard Network Code products. While some standard capacity products will be introduced at a later stage, this marks an important step toward full CAM Network Code implementation and greater predictability and transparency for market participants across the region.
By strengthening regional integration and improving market liquidity, competition and diversification, the development is expected to enhance security of supply across South East and Eastern Europe.
The Secretariat provided continuous technical and regulatory assistance throughout the process, supporting the transmission system operator in achieving compliance with the applicable Energy Community and EU regulatory framework. It will continue supporting Serbia’s gas market reform agenda and its ongoing alignment with European standards.
