Deliveries under the Ukraine Energy Support Fund: strengthening energy resilience
The restoration and reinforcement of energy infrastructure following shelling are top priorities for the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (UESF). Thanks to new donor contributions, critical equipment is being procured to ensure a stable energy supply, even in the most challenging conditions.
The German Federal Foreign Office (DE FFO) recently funded the procurement of diesel generators with a total capacity exceeding 3 MW. These generators help to provide electricity, heat, and water to approximately 250,000 people, helping to restore essential services in wartime conditions.
Furthermore, mobile cogeneration units were recently procured for Kharkiv region, funded by USAID’s contribution to the UESF. This region, which is under constant shelling, will benefit greatly from these units, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of heat and electricity to homes, even with significantly dropping temperatures. This will help maintain comfort and safety for residents.
With the continued support of donors and the efforts of the UESF, Ukraine is enhancing its energy resilience while fighting for stability and recovery.
These deliveries, completed in November, are part of a broader strategy under the Fund to restore and strengthen Ukraine's energy capacity.
The UESF was established to mitigate the impact of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, offering rapid financial support for urgent restoration efforts. In 2024, before the most recent attacks, Ukraine had already lost over 9 GW of installed generation capacity, leading to frequent rolling blackouts and unplanned power outages affecting millions of Ukrainians.
