The 2023 Energy Community Summer School kicked off on August 19th at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Political Sciences in Serbia. This year's summer school is set to provide valuable insights into the energy sector, highlighting its challenges, opportunities, and latest advancements.

The program is dedicated to aligning energy systems with the goals of the European Green Deal, focusing on sustainability and resilience. The curriculum combines theoretical learning with hands-on training, including practical case studies and simulations, to boost participants' knowledge and skills.

A noteworthy aspect of this edition is its emphasis on diversity and inclusivity. The participants, hailing from 28 different countries, have been carefully selected to ensure a balanced gender and geographical representation. The group comprises individuals from various backgrounds, including government, postgraduate studies, research, academia, private sector, and non-governmental organizations.

Leading experts, academics, and practitioners in the energy field are facilitating the interactive training sessions. Throughout the program, participants have the unique opportunity to interact with renowned professionals who share a passion for energy-related topics.

Furthermore, six journalists from the region are participating in a dedicated energy journalism training program organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. This initiative highlights the program's dedication to fostering precise and perceptive media coverage within the energy sector.

Dirk Buschle, Deputy Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, welcomed the participants, stating: “We are confident that this Summer School will deepen participants’ knowledge and inspire them to become an active participant in shaping a sustainable energy future. Their dedication and enthusiasm will contribute to meaningful discussions, creating a collaborative and vibrant learning environment”.

Scheduled to take place from August 19th to 26th, 2023, the Energy Community Summer School is organized by the Energy Community Secretariat in cooperation with the Visegrad Fund, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, and Dialogue Southeast Europe (FES-SOE). Polis University, Tirana; Comenius University Bratislava; Jagiellonian University, Krakow; Masaryk University, Brno; and REKK, Budapest, have been project partners since 2016.
