Women in Energy Photo Contest: Svitlana Yanik
Title: My Second Home

Inspiration and background:
I chose the energy sector myself because it seemed interesting and even a little romantic. I have never regretted that choice. I loved the work from the beginning and always wanted to become better at it. After 30 years at the Boryslav substation, it has truly become my second home.
One of the biggest challenges for women in the energy sector is the stereotype that energy is not a woman’s profession. For me, it became a challenge to prove that professionalism is defined by knowledge, discipline and responsibility, not gender. Some aspects of substation work can be physically demanding, but women can succeed and earn respect through competence and commitment. I have always tried to improve, be precise and take responsibility for my team and our work.

Short biography:
I am a Senior Dispatcher at Ukrenergo’s 220 kV Boryslav substation. Over 30 years at the substation, I have progressed from an electrical equipment repair and maintenance technician to a senior dispatcher. My professional principles are discipline, precision, responsibility and continuous self-improvement. I am respected by my colleagues for my strong character and expertise, and I credit every achievement to teamwork. I consider the Boryslav substation my second home and am proud to have devoted my career to Ukraine’s energy sector.
