Title: The Anatomy of a Grid

The Photographer Behind the Image

  • Inspiration and background:

From an early age, and throughout my formal education, I have always been drawn to the natural sciences, logical thinking, and the relationship between problems and their solutions. At the same time, I was involved as a volunteer and activist in several NGOs in Montenegro focused on environmental protection and the direct and indirect impact of human activities on the environment. The energy sector increasingly captured my attention as a field of electrical engineering that brings together and complements my scientific interests, analytical mindset, and commitment to environmental protection.

Although Montenegro is a civil and democratic society, prejudices and traditional perceptions of “male” and “female” professions still persist, particularly in fields involving fieldwork rather than office-based roles. For women, challenges can arise at every stage, from choosing an educational path to employment, professional development, and career advancement. Balancing professional and family responsibilities remains an additional challenge, shaped by the historically patriarchal structure of families in Montenegro and the wider Balkans.

  • Short biography:

I am a Senior Electrical Power Engineer and the Head of the Overhead Lines Maintenance Department at Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem (CGES), the Transmission System Operator of Montenegro. I have over 10 years of continuous engineering experience in the traditionally male-dominated high-voltage sector. My professional journey began as a top-performing student, completing my Specialist studies in Electrical Power Systems with a thesis focused on emergency grid restoration towers. I have risen through the ranks at CGES – from graduate intern to field maintenance engineer, and now to department head – and I coordinate crucial maintenance for the 110 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV transmission networks.

Recognised as both a natural leader and a dedicated team player, I effectively manage cross-functional field teams while championing grid resilience through the integration of cutting-edge technologies and advanced inspection methods. I am a multilingual professional: I speak fluent English and Russian, and have a working knowledge of Spanish.

“Leading in the field means bridging heavy infrastructure with cutting-edge tech to power the future. Gender never defines capability – expertise, teamwork and vision do.”
