Title: At the Heart of Hydropower

The Photographer Behind the Image

  • Inspiration and background:

I grew up in Georgia during the dark 1990s, when electricity came for only a few hours a day, sometimes not at all. Years later, I found myself working in energy. For me, it became more than a career – a chance to add my own small brick to building a future where the next generation will never know the darkness we grew up with.

I think one of the biggest challenges for women in energy is that energy is still often seen as a technical field mainly for men. These perceptions can influence how girls imagine their future and whether they see energy as a field where they can build a career. For several years, through our association, I have been visiting schools in cities and villages across Georgia, talking to young people about how diverse and full of opportunities the energy sector can be. I especially want girls to see that there is a place for them in energy. Success in this field is not about gender, but about knowledge, skills and the willingness to learn and grow.

  • Short biography:

I am Head of Strategic Development and Communications at the Georgian Renewable Energy Development Association (GREDA), with over 15 years of experience in Georgia’s energy sector. Before joining GREDA, I gained extensive experience working across both private energy companies and public-sector energy institutions, including JSC Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE), Georgia’s sole Electricity Transmission System Operator.

Today, my work at GREDA focuses on strategic development, communications, public awareness and stakeholder engagement in the renewable energy sector. I also co-host an energy segment on Palitra TV, bringing energy topics and expert perspectives to a wider audience. Through educational initiatives across Georgia, I work with young people to raise awareness of renewable energy and encourage them to explore the diverse career opportunities the sector offers.
