The Embassy of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Spain raises over EUR 30,600 for Ukraine Energy Support Fund through charity campaign, highlighting strong public solidarity 

A charity campaign launched by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Spain has so far raised EUR 30,600.39 in support of Ukraine’s energy resilience through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The Embassy and its partners continue working to expand the campaign, attract additional contributions and increase support for Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of the difficult winter period. 

The campaign has brought together broad public support through partnerships with Galega de Axuda a Ucraína (AGA-UCRAÍNA), the NGO “Help to Ukraine,” the Union of Ukrainian Associations in Spain “KRAI,” the Federation of Ukrainian Associations in Spain “FAUE,” the British Embassy in Spain, El Mundo and Ucrania FM. 

Amid continued Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, every additional contribution is critical to helping Ukrainian energy companies maintain heat and electricity supplies to millions of Ukrainians. The campaign therefore remains focused on attracting further support from individuals, businesses and partners across Spain. 

Following a joint call by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in June to mobilise an additional EUR 650 million in support, nearly EUR 193.5 million still needs to be raised to meet Ukraine’s urgent energy needs ahead of winter.

Thanks to the contributions of people, businesses, partners and members of the Ukrainian community across Spain, we have raised €30,600.39 to help Ukraine mitigate the impact of Russia’s ongoing attacks on its critical infrastructure and prepare for the difficult winter ahead. As we prepare for the upcoming heating season, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone in Spain who continues to stand firmly with Ukraine and turn solidarity into concrete support. Every donation strengthens Ukraine’s resilience and helps us protect what matters most: the everyday lives of millions of Ukrainians. I call on everyone to continue supporting Ukraine, as our needs remain immense. Continued support is essential to helping Ukraine withstand Russia’s aggression, strengthen our resilience and protect the lives of our people”, said Ambassador of Ukraine to Spain Yuliia Sokolovska.

This is not the first time that such a model has been used to mobilise support for Ukraine's energy resilience. The Ukraine Energy Support Fund’s flexible contribution model allows trusted institutions to bring together support from individuals, communities, businesses and partners and channel it to the Fund through a single legal counterparty. A similar model has already been successfully used in Latvia through cooperation with the charity organisation Ziedot.lv. The Fund received part of the support mobilised through the charity campaign “Together with Ukraine in Thoughts and Deeds,” which brought together contributions from people and businesses across Latvia. 

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund is the principal mechanism for channelling international support to Ukraine’s energy system. To date, more than EUR 1.09 billion has been contracted through supply agreements, with over EUR 776.2 million worth of energy equipment and support reported as delivered to energy companies across 23 regions of Ukraine.  

In agreement with the European Commission and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established to counteract the impact of the Russian attacks targeting critical energy infrastructure. The Fund enables governments, international financial institutions and international organisations, as well as NGO and corporate donors, to provide financial support to the Ukrainian energy sector’s efforts to repair that damage and keep functioning. Contributions to the Fund are used to finance the most urgent needs of Ukrainian energy companies such as equipment, spare parts and other technical items, as well as fuels and services needed to repair infrastructure and maintain energy and heat supply in Ukraine.  Current procurement opportunities can be found here.
