Alexei Taran elected President of the Energy Community Regulatory Board
The Energy Community Regulatory Board has elected Mr Alexei Taran, General Director of Moldova’s National Agency for Energy Regulation, ANRE, as its new President for a two-year term.
The Energy Community Regulatory Board is the independent regional body of energy regulators in the Energy Community. It serves as a platform for regulatory coordination, supporting the harmonisation of rules, the development of best practices and the implementation of the EU energy acquis across the region.
In his new role, Mr Taran will lead the ECRB at a time of expanding regulatory responsibilities, particularly in relation to the Electricity Integration Package. This key legislation provides the legal basis for the Energy Community’s electricity market coupling with the European Union. Mr. Taran also committed to using his term to strengthen the framework for implementing REMIT, the Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency.
In 2025, a historic milestone was reached with the issuance of the first-ever REMIT-related fine in the Energy Community by the Ukrainian regulator. This marked an important step in the active implementation of REMIT principles and underlined the growing importance of strong enforcement to build confidence in wholesale energy markets and protect consumers from market abuse.
The ECRB also expresses its gratitude to Mr Ymer Fejzullahu, President of ERO in Kosovo,* who served as ECRB President for the past two years.
