The United Kingdom increases its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to GBP 128,9 million (EUR 150,6 million)
The United Kingdom has officially announced its next contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund of GBP 42,4 million (EUR 48,7 million), increasing its generous support to GBP 128,9 million (EUR 150,6 million), already available in the Fund’s special account.
This additional contribution of GBP 42,4 million (EUR 48,7 million) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (the Fund) underscores the United Kingdom’s strong commitment to stand with Ukraine in strengthening its energy resilience at a critical moment of escalating Russian attacks. It is particularly important that such significant support is coming ahead of the winter season, raising the overall amount of the UK’s support under the Fund to GBP 128,9 million (EUR 150,6 million).
“I am clear that the UK’s support is unwavering and stronger than ever as we know the long-term security and stability threat that Russian aggression poses not just to Ukraine, but to the whole of Europe and to all of us here in the UK,” stated the UK Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, on her recent visit to Kyiv.
Grant funds from the UK under this tranche will support a balanced package of measures, including critical network repairs, protection of key energy assets, and support to renewable and decentralised energy solutions. The Energy Community Secretariat will coordinate with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine in allocating these funds to critical needs on the ground.
“We warmly welcome the UK's new contribution, as a vital support to Ukraine's resilience and a powerful message of commitment, highlighting the UK's priority in strengthening energy security. It reinforces the role and higher capacity of the Fund to deliver a rapid response together with complex modernisation of Ukraine’s energy system. We are proud to stand with Ukraine together with the UK”, added Artur Lorkowski, Director of Energy Community Secretariat.
"Partners support is of particular importance to us right ahead of the new heating season. As part of winter preparations, we are carrying out scheduled repairs at energy facilities, installing additional generating capacities, preparing electricity transmission and district heating systems for peak loads, and building up reserves of backup equipment. We thank the United Kingdom for its next contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which will enable us to implement relevant tasks and strengthen the country's overall energy security", emphasised Svitlana Grynchuk, Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
Since its launch in April 2022, the Fund has mobilised over EUR 1.25 billion from more than 33 donors, enabling over 815 supply contracts and EUR 726 million contracted to date. A total of 60 Ukrainian energy companies have signed contracts for the supply of energy equipment, services, and passive protection measures, while support requests have been approved for 71 energy companies overall across 21 regions of Ukraine.
The Energy Community Secretariat urges all donors to follow the UK’s example and to increase their contributions to the Fund, as the current gap in funding between available funds and prioritised needs is approximately EUR 400 million, as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty and partners works in unity to secure a sustainable and resilient energy future. Secretariat is thankful to each donor for their trust, and cooperation.
