Australia contributes AUD$10 million to Ukraine Energy Support Fund to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience

26 February 2025

The Government of Australia has contributed additional AUD$10 million to Ukraine Energy Support Fund (UESF), reinforcing its ongoing efforts to sustain Ukraine’s energy system during the intensifying attacks.

The funds are provided without earmarking, allowing flexible allocation based on Ukraine’s key pressing energy needs. This contribution follows the previous contribution of AUD$20 million by Australia.

The flexible nature of the Australian contribution allows the UESF, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, to respond dynamically to the most urgent needs. With this contribution, UESF continues to help Ukraine sustain its energy infrastructure, provide heat and electricity for millions of Ukrainians.

The UESF, coordinated by the Energy Community Secretariat, has become one of the most efficient mechanisms for rapid response. To date, the Fund has mobilised over EUR 1 billion from more than 30 donors to repair Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Contributions to the UESF have evidenced the power of international solidarity, enabling the financing of over 700 supply contracts totalling EUR 600 million, supporting infrastructure recovery for more than 56 Ukrainian companies.

During three years of successful operation, UESF is evolving into an instrument for sustainable, decentralized energy system, providing support in setting up the foundation for long-term resilience and growth.

The Energy Community Secretariat invites both current and potential donors to continue their support, ensuring UESF ability to both respond to the urgent needs while providing a positive impact on modernising energy system in Ukraine.
