First biomethane shipment from Ukraine to the EU is a milestone in energy integration

The Energy Community Secretariat extends congratulations to Ukraine for its first successful biomethane export to the EU. In February 2025, 67,000 cubic meters of biomethane were transported via the Ukrainian gas transmission system to Slovakia, marking a key milestone in Ukraine's energy transition and its integration into the EU’s renewable energy market.

This achievement is the result of significant technical readiness and regulatory adaptations over the past two years. While this marks an important step forward, further regulatory adjustments are needed to ensure sustained and economically viable biomethane flows between Ukraine and the EU.
