Secretariat’s Director commends Moldova's new law on renewables

The Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Mr. Artur Lorkowski, embarked on a visit to the Republic of Moldova this week, where he engaged in a series of high-level meetings aimed at advancing Moldova's energy reform agenda. During his visit, he met with key figures, including the Prime Minister, Mr. Dorin Recean, Minister of Energy, Mr.  Victor Parlicov, Minister of Environment, Ms Rodica Iordanov, ANRE officials, Members of Parliament, and various business stakeholders.

The primary objective of Mr. Lorkowski's visit was to discuss the aligning of Moldova's energy reform efforts with the Clean Energy Package and Electricity Integration Package while acknowledging the significant strides made by the country in transposing and implementing the EU acquis.

"We stand by Moldova in this journey because we believe that the most efficient way to reduce Moldova's dependency and enhance energy security is integration with the EU energy markets. Today, we witness the genuine determination of the Moldovan Parliament to prioritize the development of renewable energy.” noted Mr. Lorkowski during a press conference held in conjunction with Minister Parlicov and Chairman Marian after the final adoption of the Law on renewable energy by the Moldovan legislators.

Another important development of the mission was also the joint organization, in collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Ministry of Energy, and the Energy Efficiency Agency, of a high-level conference titled "Renewable Energy Solutions for Heating and Cooling Systems in Moldova, organized as part of EU4Energy program. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lorkowski emphasized the importance of renewable energy in reducing Moldova's energy dependency and enhancing its security.
