The European Union donates additional 50 million Euro to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund

20 October 2023

Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, has announced a grant contribution from the European Commission to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund amounting to 50 million Euros. In her announcement, she stressed the importance of preparedness for potential Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the upcoming winter and called for collective efforts to immediately support Ukraine in repairing war-related damages. To this end, Simson urged donors to continue their support for the Ukraine Energy Support Fund managed by the Energy Community Secretariat.

With this pledge, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has reached EUR 270 million in pledges, with EUR 192 million already deposited in the Special Purpose Account.

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established with the objective of providing financial assistance to repair Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks and ensuring the continued functionality of the energy sector. It is managed by the Energy Community Secretariat, with contributions from governments, international organizations, and corporate donors.
