Secretariat and IEA join forces to improve energy statistics

The Energy Community Secretariat joined the kick-off meeting in Ukraine and Georgia led by the International Energy Agency (IEA) within the framework of the EU4Energy Data project on 24-25 January in Kiev and on 30-31 January in Tbilisi. The meetings brought together representatives of ministries, statistics agencies, NGOs and business associations. The Secretariat’s statistics expert Milka Mumovic presented the relevance of reliable energy statistics to design policies compliant with the Energy Community acquis.

The workshops focused on gathering information on the current use of energy data for policy-making as well as the state of transposition and implementation of the Energy Community statistics acquis. As a result of a coordinated approach between the EU4Energy Data and the Secretariat in matters relevant for the Energy Community acquis, it was agreed that additional support would be provided by both parties for implementing Regulation (EU) 431/2014 regarding annual statistics on energy consumption in households.

This project is part of the EU4Energy Initiative which covers all EU support for evidence-based energy policy-making and energy efficiency in the region of the Eastern Partnership, which brings together the EU, its member states and six partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
