Secretariat supports effective unbundling of Transportgas Srbija
On 28 November, the Energy Community Secretariat published Opinion 3/24 on the unbundling of Transportgas Srbija, Serbia’s gas transmission system operator (TSO).
The Opinion acknowledges the preliminary decision of Serbia’s energy regulatory authority AERS and highlights specific concerns to be taken into utmost account by AERS while issuing the final certification decision to prevent conflicts of interest and improve market competition, infrastructure development, and regional integration.
Serbia is a key player in the Central and South-Eastern European gas market and ensuring full unbundling of the biggest gas transmission operator Transportgas Srbija is a vital step for the country’s gas market, the stability of the region and for seamless cooperation with EU countries in line with the EU acquis.
"The Secretariat’s Opinion is a crucial step toward ensuring Serbia’s compliance with Energy Community law and fulfilling the commitments taken by Serbia under the Reform Agenda agreed with the EU" said Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.
As required by Article 10 of the Gas Directive and Regulation (EC) 715/2009, the Serbian energy regulator AERS must take “utmost account” of the Secretariat’s Opinion when adopting its final certification decision, which is expected within two months.
