16 November 2022

The Energy and Climate Committee met in the EU Pavilion on the side-lines of COP27 in Sherm-el-Sheik. The meeting, co-hosted by the Secretariat, brought together the European Commission, represented by Ditte Juul Jørgensen, Director-General – DG ENER, Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of Energy Platform Task Force - DG ENER and Diana Acconcia, Director of International Affairs and Climate Finance – DG CLIMA, officials of the Contracting Parties and civil society organizations represented by CAN Europe.

The discussions focused on stepping up climate action within the Energy Community, starting with the adoption of ambitious climate and energy targets at the Ministerial Council on 15 December and implementing decarbonisation-focused rules outlined in the Energy Community Decarbonisation Roadmap.

Director Lorkowski shared the Energy Community’s approach to effective climate and energy planning at a COP27 side event hosted by IRENA. Deputy Buschle joined discussions in the Ukrainian Pavilion on implications of Russia’s war against Ukraine on climate, energy and environmental policies and the need for a green recovery framework for Ukraine.
