Serbia assumes Energy Community Presidency

11 January 2021

On 1 January 2021, Serbia took over the rotating Presidency of the Energy Community for the year.

As holder of the Presidency, Serbia will give a new impetus to energy sector reforms especially in light of the path towards complete carbon neutrality in 2050. The overriding priorities will be the finalization of National Energy and Climate Plans and the adoption of 2030 targets for energy efficiency, renewables and carbon reduction. The Serbian Presidency will also strive to advance the development of a carbon pricing mechanism for the Energy Community.

High on the Presidency’s agenda is also the development of a common electricity and natural gas market, creation of mandatory stocks of crude oil and petroleum products and the expansion of energy infrastructure.

Additional thematic meetings are planned in order to drive forward the reform process with the support of the Secretariat.
