The EU4Energy Governance project undertakes to support Ukraine in developing a long-term strategy for mobilizing investment in the renovation of the national stock of residential and commercial buildings, to boost their energy efficiency.

On 19 July, Energy Community experts, representatives of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine and the Ministry for Regional Development, Building and Housing and Utility Services of Ukraine gathered at a kick-off meeting. The strategy will take into account the national energy efficiency target until 2020 and 2030 for Ukraine calculated with the support of the EU4Energy Governance Project and will be updated every three years beginning with 2021. It will also provide a clear picture of the current breakdown of the building stock in the country in order to provide an evidence-based estimate of expected energy savings and wider benefits, including economic, societal and environmental benefits.

The State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) is the responsible authority for the implementation of state policy in the fields of energy efficiency and renewables in Ukraine. Its work is coordinated by the Ministry for Regional Development, Building and Housing and Utility Services.

* The EU4Energy Initiative covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the longer term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
