8 February 2019

At a workshop on 5-6 February in Sarajevo, the Energy Community Secretariat teamed up with GIZ Open Regional Fund for South-East Europe - Energy Efficiency (ORF-EE) to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in the development of an Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP).

The two-day workshop brought together more than 80 participants from a variety of institutions and public companies, among them members of the Working Group for the development of the NECP for the period 2021-2030.

Irina Lazzerini, Energy Community Secretariat’s Sustainable Energy Expert, one of the speakers at the GIZ organized event, explained to the participants the main aim and structure of the plan, which aims to tackle the five dimensions of the energy union (energy security; fully integrated internal energy market; energy efficiency; decarbonisation; research, innovation and competitiveness). Ms Lazzerini also stressed the importance of regional cooperation for the development of effective NECPs.

This event is part of a wider initiative to support NECP development in the Western Balkans, in cooperation with the Energy Community and GIZ project Capacity Development for Climate Policy in the Countries of SEE, Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia.

According to the 2018 Energy Community Ministerial Council Recommendation, all Contracting Parties need to submit a first draft of the NECP in the first quarter of 2020 and the final one by the end of 2020.
