On 26-27 November 2019, the Energy Community Secretariat organized a two-day workshop in Chisinau for the representatives of natural gas market stakeholders of Moldova. The training focused on the Natural Gas Market Rules of Moldova, which are currently under public consultation initiated by the country’s regulator ANRE.

The participants (Moldovagaz, Moldovatransgaz, Rotalingaz, Edinet-Gaz, AIK Energy, Chisinaugaz and the Competition Council) were informed about the future structure of the natural gas market, the main contractual relations, the details of the commercial balancing of contractual gas flows, the roles and responsibilities of the balancing entity and the provisions of the regulation concerning wholesale market integrity and transparency (REMIT), which are applicable in the Energy Community.

The participants also had the opportunity to test and experience how the market rules are going to be applied in practice via a trading day simulation.

The workshop is part of EU4Energy assistance to ANRE, which consists of training stakeholders about European best practices on gas market regulation and finalizing the Natural Gas Market Rules on the basis of the results of the ongoing public consultation.

* The EU4Energy Initiative covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the longer term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
