Joining political, business and other leaders, Director Janez Kopač participated in a panel discussion on the investment climate in Ukraine at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum taking place this week in Davos.
At the climate-change focused meeting, Mr Kopač provided his insights on the current opportunities and challenges of investing in Ukraine. The Director explained that the investment climate in the energy sector substantially improved due to the transposition of EU rules in the frame of the Energy Community. The current process of full liberalisation of the electricity market, by 1 July 2019, and introduction of auctions as a basis for renewables support schemes are building investor confidence.
The improvement in the investment climate is already reflected in a new agreement between Ukraine and the Norwegian company NBT, French Total and EBRD on the construction of a wind power project with 250 MW of installed capacity in southern Ukraine signed on the sidelines of the meeting.
