The Energy Community Secretariat hosted a meeting with USAID’s Bureau for Europe and Eurasia on 24 October 2017 in Vienna. The Secretariat and USAID presented their activities in the Energy Community Contracting Parties and agreed on future cooperation initiatives. On this occasion, Director Kopač, on behalf of the Energy Community Secretariat, and Acting Assistant Administrator, Margot B. Ellis, on behalf of USAID, signed a Framework for Cooperation (link to signed agreement). USAID also expressed its intention to cooperate with the Secretariat’s Dispute Resolution Centre.

Within the Framework for Cooperation, the two institutions agreed to, inter alia, strengthen cooperation in supporting energy sector reforms, improve energy sector governance, promote energy sector investments, including the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in the Energy Community Contracting Parties as well as Eastern Partnership countries.

Director Kopač said: “The Secretariat and USAID are natural partners. Through strengthening and expanding our cooperation, we will be able to assist the target countries more effectively in reforming their energy sectors in a sustainable way. As one of our first deliverables, we agreed to organize a meeting of all donors active in the Energy Community Contracting Parties in order to align our activities.”

Mrs. Ellis said: "The Framework for Cooperation between the Secretariat and USAID is an important signal to our partners. It confirms our continued commitment to support the integration of the Contracting Parties into the European Union."
